Profile

About me

David Griffiths - Gynaecologist and Urogynaecologist

My name is David Griffiths and I originate in Birmingham but have travelled extensively to gain expertise and qualifications in order to become an expert in my field.

I joined the Princess Margaret Hospital in 1999 as a Consultant and moved to The Great Western Hospital in 2002. Currently I am the Joint Clinical Lead for the O&G Department with responsibility for all the medical staff in the directorate.

In 1987, I qualified from Leicester Medical School and I did most of my early training in the East and West Midlands before taking a post as a Clinical Fellow in Reproductive Medicine & IVF at St James's University Hospital, Leeds.

In 1994, I was awarded a Fellowship to the prestigious Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA and I worked at the Brigham & Women's Hospital.

I have also had the opportunity to work in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Center for Endometriosis Care, and at various hospitals in New Zealand.

You can see me at The Ridgeway Hospital, Wroughton and also at the Shalbourne Suite, the Great Western Hospital, Swindon. My secretary, Denise, will be pleased to offer you appointment in the day, evenings or on a Saturday morning.

What I do

My practice covers all aspects of gynaecology. As I am both a Gynaecologist and Urogynaecologist I can see women who have both gynaecological problems and bladder symptoms, which is really useful as often these can occur at the same time. I specialise in menstrual problems, pelvic pain, endometriosis and pelvic floor disorders.

I perform approximately 540 gynaecological operations every year and of these 200 are classified as major procedures eg a hysterectomy or a pelvic floor reconstruction. Most of my surgeries are performed by 'key-hole' and I am a recognised trainer for the University of Surrey in advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Personal profile

I have known my wife, Sarah, who worked as a nurse and midwife, since 1987 and we have four young daughters; Olivia, Zoe, Mia, and Amy. Each one is delightful but together they are a force to be reckoned with.
